If the forklift is spending most of its time inside on sealed floors, solid press-on tyres are almost always the right answer. No air means no punctures, which matters a lot when you’ve got a machine running two or three shifts a day. The other thing solid tyres do well is maintain consistent ride height. That’s not just about comfort — it affects your load centre distance and stability calculations, particularly on Clark models with side-shift attachments. Solid tyres on smooth warehouse floors also last considerably longer than pneumatics in the same environment.
Think of cushion tyres as a middle option. They press onto the rim the same way a solid tyre does — so they’re also puncture-proof — but the rubber profile is softer underneath. On Clark C20s, C25s, and C30 LPG machines running long shifts on hard concrete, operators do notice the difference. It’s not a dramatic change, but over the course of an eight-hour shift it adds up.
They’re not for every application, and they’re not always stocked as widely as solid or pneumatic. But if you’re running Clark counterbalance models in a distribution or retail environment and operator fatigue is a concern, they’re worth asking about.
Outdoor work is a different story. Gravel yards, loading docks with uneven surfaces, site work, rough terrain — solid tyres don’t handle these well. They transmit every bump directly through the machine, which is hard on the operator and hard on the forklift’s mast and carriage components over time.
Pneumatic tyres absorb surface irregularities and give you real traction on loose or wet ground. The obvious trade-off is puncture risk, but for outdoor Clark operations it’s generally the right call. Larger Clark models — the C40 and C50 diesel range in particular — are typically spec’d with pneumatics in the 250-15, 300-15, and 28×9-15 sizes for this reason. Clark’s model range runs from 1.5-tonne electrics up to 5-tonne diesel machines, so the tyre dimensions span quite a bit. A tyre that physically fits may not be the correct press-on specification — and fitting an incorrectly toleranced solid tyre creates problems you’ll only discover under load. Check the sidewall of your existing tyre — the dimension is moulded into the rubber. It’ll look something like 21×8-9 or 6.50-10. Your Clark operator manual or the tyre placard on the machine will also have it. If you’ve got the model number but can’t locate the size, call us and we’ll identify it from that.

Indoor warehouse use generally points toward solid or cushion; outdoor or rough-surface work points toward pneumatic. Pneumatic tyres can usually be handled by your own workshop if you have a tyre press or compressor setup. Not always — depends on the operation — but it’s worth asking.
