Alrode, New Redruth and the Meyersdal logistics parks make up one of the busiest manufacturing and distribution belts south of Johannesburg, and the forklift fleets working it aren’t all doing the same job. Older manufacturing floors and newer distribution centres need genuinely different tyres, not the same one sold twice.
At GP Forklift, we supply and fit solid, pneumatic and polyurethane tyres on-site across Alberton, matched to your specific floor rather than a general Alberton average.
We’re open Monday to Thursday, 7:30–17:00, and Friday 7:30–14:00; closed weekends. Every order is dispatched from our facility at 47 Harris Avenue, Sebenza, Edenvale.
Older, established manufacturing sites around Alrode and New Redruth tend to run internal concrete floors that have taken decades of forklift traffic, often with uneven patches and repaired sections. Newer distribution facilities around Meyersdal, closer to the N3, run smoother modern floors built for faster pallet movement. Fitting the same tyre across both is how you end up replacing tyres more often than you should.
01
Solid tyres handle uneven or patched concrete better than pneumatics.
02
Polyurethane and cushion tyres suit the sealed, high-speed floors common in newer facilities.
03
Matched tyres wear more predictably, which means fewer surprise failures.
04
The right tyre from the start avoids early, avoidable replacements.
Solid tyres are the right call for older Alrode and New Redruth manufacturing floors, where uneven or patched concrete sections put more strain on pneumatics than they’re built to handle.
For loading bay and outdoor yard sections, where surfaces are rougher than the warehouse floor itself, pneumatic tyres offer the shock absorption solids can’t provide.
Newer Meyersdal distribution centres, with smoother floors and higher pallet-movement frequency, generally do better on polyurethane tyres.
Sizes commonly fitted across Alberton’s manufacturing and distribution operators:
18x7-8
16x6-8
23x9-10
Getting the size right isn’t just about fit. It affects traction, vibration, and how evenly the tyre wears across its life.
We stock and fit tyres for the brands most common across Alberton’s manufacturing and distribution fleets:
Running an older model no longer officially supported? Get in touch and we’ll check what’s available.
Older concrete with wear patches favours solids. Newer sealed floors favour polyurethane.
Heavier manufacturing stock needs different support to lighter distribution pallets.
Loading bays often need a different tyre to the main floor, even on the same site.
We recommend the tyre that matches your floor, not the most expensive option on the shelf.
Not sure which category applies to your site? We’ll assess it directly.
Solid tyres remain the more common choice on older Alrode and New Redruth manufacturing floors.
Polyurethane tyres are increasingly the default for newer Meyersdal distribution facilities.
Mismatched tyre choice on uneven concrete is one of the most common causes of early tyre failure we see in Alberton.
Regular inspection catches early wear before it becomes a mid-shift breakdown.
Correctly matched tyres reduce strain on suspension and transmission components over the life of the forklift.
Our Edenvale base keeps scheduled fitting and emergency callouts responsive across Alrode, New Redruth and Meyersdal.
We assess your actual floor condition rather than applying a blanket Alberton standard.
Competitive rates without compromising on tyre quality.
No need to pull your forklift off site. We come to you.
Ryan WiblinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We recently had to do some major repairs to our forklift. Bob and the team at GP forklifts were absolutely unreal in their service and communication. The forklift was repaired at a very reasonable price and great care and effort was put into repairing everything and I'm quite convinced that the forklift is now running better than when we bought it new. Yes, Alrode and New Redruth are within our regular Alberton coverage, and our mobile team fits on-site at both.
Most Alberton manufacturing sites run solid or polyurethane tyres on smooth internal floors, with pneumatic tyres reserved for loading bay and yard areas.
Our Edenvale base is a short run from Alberton and the Meyersdal logistics parks, which keeps scheduled fitting and emergency callouts responsive.
Yes, and we often do. A fleet running both an older manufacturing floor and a newer loading bay area may need two different tyre types across the same set of machines.
We’d suggest quarterly as a minimum, though sites with visibly patched or uneven concrete may benefit from more frequent checks to catch early wear.
Whether your fleet works an older Alrode production floor or a newer Meyersdal distribution centre, GP Forklift supplies and fits tyres matched to your actual site conditions.
