Not all Mitsubishi forklift tires are the same, and what works in one operation doesn’t always work in another. Your surfaces, your loads, indoor vs outdoor – it all matters.
01
Most of the warehouses and factories we work with run solid tires on their Mitsubishi forklifts. Can’t puncture them because there’s no air – just rubber all the way through with a metal band in the middle. You’re looking at 2-4 years before replacement depending on how hard you work the machines and whether your drivers are rough on them.
They’re brilliant for concrete floors and indoor work. Distribution centres, manufacturing plants, anywhere you’re on smooth surfaces and can’t afford downtime from flat tires. The rubber wears slowly on good surfaces and you don’t have the hassle of checking pressures or worrying about punctures.
Outdoors on rough ground? Not ideal. Solid means solid – there’s no give, so every bump goes straight through to the machine and your driver feels it. The tires wear faster too when you’re constantly running over debris or uneven pavement. Some people try it anyway but then complain about the rough ride and worn tires six months later.
We stock solid tires for the full Mitsubishi range – little 1.5 tonners up to the big 7-ton units. Non-marking options cost extra (about 25-30% more) but you need them in food facilities, pharmaceutical operations, anywhere black marks on the floor are a problem. If your floor’s already covered in scuff marks, save your money and get standard black tires.
02
Your Mitsubishi working outdoors? Building materials, timber yards, uneven ground? Pneumatics. Air-filled with aggressive treads that actually grip when you’re on gravel or dirt.
The difference is massive. Drivers notice it immediately – smoother ride, better handling, less beating themselves up over an 8-hour shift. The air acts like suspension, absorbing shocks instead of transmitting everything through the machine. Your forklift’s drivetrain lasts longer too because it’s not constantly hammered by vibration.
Downside’s obvious though – they can puncture. Sharp objects, construction debris, anything that penetrates the tire means you’re stopped until it’s repaired or replaced. We’ve had customers running building supply yards lose half a day because someone drove over a roofing screw. Foam-filled pneumatics solve this (you get the cushioning without the puncture risk) but they’re pricey.
Common sizes for Mitsubishi pneumatics: 7.00-12, 8.15-15, 28×9-15. Depends on your model. Send us your forklift details and we’ll tell you exactly what fits.
03
Lower profile, tighter turning circle. Cushion tires sit closer to the ground and they’re pressed straight onto the wheel rim. Good for tight aisles where you need to manoeuvre in small spaces.
Mitsubishi electrics in warehouses often run these. The lower profile gives your operators slightly better visibility too when they’re stacking high, and the tight turns help when you’re working between racking systems.
They wear out faster than solid tires – we’re seeing 18-24 months in busy operations, maybe longer if you’re not hammering them. There’s a wear line on the sidewall so you know when they’re done. No guessing.
We Actually Know Mitsubishi Equipment
Your Mitsubishi wasn’t built randomly – there are engineering specs for everything including which tires work properly. We stock tires that meet those specs because wrong tires affect stability, capacity, even your warranty if something goes badly wrong.
We deal with FG/FD series forklifts constantly – the 1.5 to 7-ton IC units, electric counterbalance machines, pneumatic and cushion configurations. You give us a model number and we know immediately what fits without having to look it up or call someone. That saves time when you’re trying to get a tire replaced quickly.
Stock on Hand, Not Waiting for Weeks
Our Sebenza warehouse stocks common Mitsubishi tire sizes because nobody can wait three weeks for a container from overseas. Most standard sizes? Same day to Johannesburg addresses. Odd sizes we don’t stock regularly? Usually 2-3 days through our suppliers.
Matters when you’re doing routine maintenance and discover a tire’s worn through, or when you’re planning a maintenance window and need multiple sets delivered together. We work around your schedule, not make you wait for ours.
Fitting Matters More Than People Think
Anyone with basic tools can bolt tires on. Doing it properly – correct press equipment, right orientation, checking the rim condition first – that’s different. Badly fitted tires come loose, wear funny, create safety issues that aren’t worth saving R500 on dodgy installation.
When we fit tires we check the rims first for damage or wear, position everything correctly, press them on right, verify the load ratings match what your forklift needs. We also look at the rest of the wheel assembly while we’re there. No point putting new tires on wheels with shot bearings.
We’ll Tell You What You Actually Need
Sometimes the problem’s not just worn tires. If yours are wearing unevenly, cracking early, showing weird damage patterns – there’s usually a reason. Could be driver behaviour, surface problems, wrong inflation for pneumatics, mechanical issues with the forklift.
We’ll tell you straight if new tires won’t fix the real problem. Might mean you need driver training, surface repairs, or getting the forklift’s alignment checked before spending money on tires. We’d rather give you honest advice than sell you tires every few months when the actual issue needs sorting.
We Quote You Same Day
Pricing includes everything – tires, fitting if you need it, delivery charges if applicable, lead times. We break it down so you see exactly where the money’s going. Tire cost, labour, travel if we’re coming to you – all itemized.
If we think there’s a better option for your situation, we’ll say so. Maybe a different compound lasts longer in your conditions. Maybe foam-filled pneumatics instead of regular air-filled. We give you the options, you decide what makes sense.
Schedule the Work
Once you approve the quote, we sort out timing that doesn’t mess up your operations. If you can bring the forklift to Sebenza, we usually fit tires within a few hours. Need us on-site because the machine can’t move easily? We send mobile fitting to your premises.
Fleet work with multiple forklifts? We can come after hours or weekends to avoid impacting production. Some warehouses prefer Sunday mornings when they’re quiet. We’re flexible.
Fitting Takes 2-4 Hours
Depends on tire type and whether we’re doing all four or just certain positions. Solid and cushion tires need press equipment to mount properly. Pneumatics need correct inflation, sometimes balancing for the bigger capacity forklifts.
We clean the wheels before mounting new tires, check for damage that could cause early tire failure, verify everything meets the load specs your forklift was designed for. If we spot mechanical problems while we’re working – worn bearings, damaged hubs, alignment issues – we’ll point them out so you can deal with them.
You Get Documentation
Before we leave (or before you collect), we verify proper fitment, check wheel security, confirm the forklift runs normally with new tires on. You get paperwork showing what was fitted – tire specs, serial numbers where applicable, fitting date. For your maintenance records.
We’ll also tell your operators about break-in procedures if relevant (some tire types perform better after initial wearing-in) and what to watch for that might indicate problems developing.
Based in Edenvale but we cover Johannesburg properly. Mobile fitting teams work regularly in: Johannesburg and East Rand - Edenvale, Boksburg, Benoni, Kempton Park, Germiston, Springs, Brakpan. West Rand - Roodepoort, Krugersdorp, Randfontein, Westonaria. Pretoria area - Centurion, Midrand, Rosslyn industrial. South of Jo'burg - Alberton, Meyerton, Vereeniging. Response times depend where you are and how busy we are, but we aim for same-week service across Johannesburg for standard tire fitting. Emergency situations get bumped up the queue because a forklift down with blown tires can stop operations fast. Outside Johannesburg? We can supply tires with delivery arranged through our logistics people. Installation you'd need to coordinate locally, though we're happy to provide specs and recommendations to whoever does the fitting for you.
Tire Type Standard solid rubber for smaller Mitsubishi models (1.5-2.5 ton) - typically R3,500 to R6,000 per tire depending on size and compound. Premium compounds cost more upfront but often deliver better value through longer life. Pneumatics generally R2,500-R5,500 per tire for standard air-filled. Foam-filled pneumatics run about 40-50% more than air-filled but you eliminate puncture downtime. Non-marking tires add 25-35% to costs regardless of type. Specialized compounds. If you don't actually need non-marking, you're wasting money on a feature that provides zero benefit.
Bigger forklifts need bigger, heavier-duty tires. Full set for a 5-ton Mitsubishi costs considerably more than a 2-ton unit because the construction requirements are completely different. Don't expect small forklift pricing if you're running heavy equipment.
All pricing quoted upfront with validity periods stated (usually 30 days for standard tires, shorter for special orders). No surprise additions later. Payment terms: Account facilities available for businesses with credit approval. Otherwise cash, EFT, or card on completion. Larger fleet jobs - we can structure payment around your procurement procedures.
Call 010 110 1819 or WhatsApp 063 837 9914. Give us your Heli model, the current tyre size (it's printed on the tyre sidewall — look for something like 6.50-10 or 7.00-12), and a quick description of where and how the machine's used. Five minutes on the phone and we've got what we need. Timeline: Same-day response during business hours.
We give you a clear figure covering tyres and fitting — not a ballpark. If you're not certain on the size or you'd like us to assess the machine first, that can be arranged. Timeline: Most quotes come back within a few hours of your enquiry.
Happy with the price? We lock in the booking. Your machine comes to us in Edenvale, or we come to you — whichever works better for your operation. Timeline: We typically schedule within 1–3 business days.
Worn tyres come off, rims get inspected for damage, and the new Heli-compatible tyres go on to the correct torque spec. If we notice anything else worth flagging, we'll mention it — no pressure to deal with it on the spot. Timeline: 1–3 hours depending on how many tyres and site accessibility.
We walk you through what was done and confirm the fitment before the machine goes back to work. Timeline: Same-day completion in most cases.
Ryan WiblinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We recently had to do some major repairs to our forklift. Bob and the team at GP forklifts were absolutely unreal in their service and communication. The forklift was repaired at a very reasonable price and great care and effort was put into repairing everything and I'm quite convinced that the forklift is now running better than when we bought it new. Solid and cushion tires have wear lines on the sidewall – tire wears down to that line, it’s replacement time. Pneumatics, check the tread depth (lugs worn smooth means they’re done) and look for cracking or damage. Generally if your operators are reporting rough ride, increased vibration, handling feels off – have the tires checked.
You’ll often see uneven wear developing before complete wear-through. If one section wears significantly faster than the rest, that usually indicates operating problems you need to sort alongside tire replacement.
Don’t. Your forklift’s stability and handling depends on consistent tire behavior all round. Mixing solid and pneumatic, or running different tread patterns, affects how the machine corners, stops, handles loads. Stick with matching tires for safety and performance.
Only exception – if you’re replacing tires in stages (front this month, rear next month) using the same type throughout. Even then, better to change complete sets together when possible.
Common sizes we stock: same-day or next-day, fitting scheduled whenever works for you. Specialty sizes or compounds we need to order: typically 3-5 working days to arrive, then fitting from there. Emergency situations sometimes get priority ordering to minimize your downtime.
Planning fleet maintenance and need multiple sets? Give us a week or two notice. Lets us pre-order everything, coordinate delivery, schedule fitting teams without rushing.
Absolutely, and we maintain detailed service records that preserve warranty coverage. Some warranties require servicing by authorised dealers, though many simply require professional maintenance documentation. We’ll review your warranty terms during assessment to ensure our servicing meets all requirements. In some cases, we coordinate with dealers to maintain warranty compliance while providing more responsive local service.
For maintenance contract customers in our primary service areas (Gauteng, KZN, Western Cape, Eastern Cape), we commit to 4-hour emergency response during business hours, next-day response after hours. Non-contract customers receive service as technician availability allows, typically same-day or next-day. Remote areas naturally take longer – we’re honest about realistic response times rather than making promises we can’t keep.
For major repairs requiring workshop time, we arrange temporary replacements when available from our rental fleet. Availability isn’t guaranteed – we prioritise based on operational urgency and existing commitments. This service is included for premium maintenance contracts and available at daily rental rates for other customers. Many repairs happen on-site during scheduled maintenance, eliminating downtime entirely.
We never pressure customers into unnecessary work. When significant repairs are needed, we explain what’s failing, what happens if you defer the work, safety implications, and cost to repair versus replace. Sometimes the sensible decision is retiring old equipment rather than investing heavily in repairs. We provide honest advice based on your operational needs and budget constraints, not what generates the highest invoice.
Certainly – many customers start with call-out service to evaluate our work before committing to contracts. When you’re ready to switch, we conduct a thorough fleet assessment to establish baseline equipment condition, then propose appropriate contract terms. Existing equipment issues might need addressing before starting preventative maintenance programs, ensuring you’re not paying for regular servicing while dealing with accumulated neglect.
