What We Supply for Toyota Forklifts

01

Solid Pneumatic Tyres

These are the workhorses of the tyre world. Made from solid rubber right through, they don’t go flat and they last ages. If your Toyota forklift works both indoors and outdoors, you’re probably running on these. They handle pallet jack work in your warehouse just as well as they manage rough surfaces outside.

The ride’s a bit firmer than air-filled tyres, but here’s the thing – you’re not stopping work because someone drove over a nail. In our experience, most Johannesburg operations prefer solid pneumatics because they just keep going. You’ll get about 2,000 to 3,000 operating hours out of a good set, depending on your surfaces and how heavily you’re loading.

We stock sizes for all Toyota models, from your 1.5-ton units right through to your 10-ton machines. The most common sizes we fit are 7.00-12, 8.15-15, and 28×9-15, but we’ve got access to the full range.

02

Cushion Tyres

These are pressed directly onto your wheel – no air, no tube, just solid rubber in a smaller profile. If your Toyota forklift works mainly indoors on smooth concrete, cushion tyres give you excellent manoeuvrability. The smaller turning radius means you can work in tighter spaces, which matters when you’re loading trucks or stacking in narrow aisles.

They sit lower to the ground, which gives you better stability for high-stacking operations. We fit both smooth and treaded cushion tyres. Smooth ones last longer and are less likely to chunk, but if you occasionally go outside or work where floors get wet, treaded cushions give you better grip.

The other decision you’ll make is marking versus non-marking. Black tyres are cheaper and wear slower, but they’ll leave marks on your floors. Non-marking tyres cost a bit more, but if you’re working in pharmaceutical, food processing, or anywhere with light-coloured epoxy floors, they’re worth it.

03

Air Pneumatic Tyres

These are just like your car tyres – rubber with an air-filled inner tube. They give the smoothest ride and they’re the cheapest option upfront. The catch? They puncture. If you’re working outdoors on rough ground with debris, screws, or metal offcuts lying around, you’ll spend money and time fixing flats.

We fit air pneumatic tyres when customers specifically request them, but we’re honest about the trade-offs. They’re great for applications where operator comfort matters and puncture risk is low. They also give you excellent traction on uneven surfaces – better than solid tyres for outdoor construction work or lumber yards.

Why Johannesburg Operations Trust GP Forklifts

We Actually Know Toyota Equipment

We’ve worked on Toyota forklifts since the 1970s. Our technicians have fitted tyres on everything from the old 02-series through to the current electric and LPG models. When you tell us your model number, we know immediately what size tyres you need, what your wheel specifications are, and what options you have.

This matters because wrong tyres don’t just perform poorly – they can damage your forklift. The wrong diameter affects your load capacity. Wrong width can stress your axles. We’ve seen other suppliers fit tyres that technically mount but cause problems later. We don’t do that.

BEE Level 1 Certified

If procurement compliance matters to your business, we’re BEE Level 1 with 135% procurement recognition. Many of our clients in pharmaceutical manufacturing, automotive assembly, and large distribution centres need this for their supply chain requirements. It’s sorted with us.

We’re Based in Edenvale

Our workshop’s at 47 Harris Avenue in Sebenza, which means we can reach most Johannesburg operations within an hour during normal traffic. We regularly service forklifts in Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, and the West Rand. If you’re further out in Mpumalanga, Limpopo, or North West, we’ll still help – we’ve done tyre jobs as far as Tzaneen and Rustenburg.

Transparent Pricing

We quote before we start work. No surprise charges, no hidden fees for fitting or disposal. The price we give you is what you pay. If we find other issues while we’re changing your tyres – worn wheel bearings, damaged rims, alignment problems – we’ll tell you, but we won’t just add it to your bill without asking first.

How We Handle Your Tyre Replacement

Step 1: You Tell Us What You Need

Call us on 010 110 1819 or email sales@gpforklifts.co.za with your Toyota model number and serial number. These are on the data plate on your forklift. If you can also send a photo of your current tyres showing the size markings, even better. This takes about 2 minutes and it means we can give you an accurate quote immediately.

Step 2: We Quote You

Within an hour during business hours, we’ll send you a written quote. It’ll include the tyre cost, fitting, balancing if needed, and disposal of your old tyres. If you’ve got multiple forklifts or you’re a regular customer, we’ll work out pricing that makes sense. Our quotes are valid for 30 days.

Step 3: We Schedule the Work

Once you accept the quote, we’ll book a time slot. If you can bring the forklift to us in Edenvale, that’s usually cheaper. If you need us to come to you, we’ll arrange our mobile unit. Most jobs take 2 to 4 hours depending on whether we’re doing all four tyres or just the drive wheels.

Step 4: We Fit and Test

Our technicians press the new tyres, check wheel condition, look at your mast alignment, and test the forklift under load. If we spot other issues – like play in your steering or hydraulic leaks – we’ll mention it, but the decision to fix it is yours. We’ll give you a completion certificate and keep the records in our system for your compliance needs.

What You'll Invest in Quality Toyota Forklift Tyres

Tyre costs vary based on: Size: Larger capacity forklifts need bigger, more expensive tyres Type: Air pneumatic is cheapest, non-marking cushion is most expensive Brand: Premium brands last longer but cost more upfront Quantity: Ordering full sets or fleet quantities gets you better pricing As a rough guide, expect to pay: Small cushion tyres (1.5 to 2.5-ton forklifts): R1,500 to R3,000 per tyre Standard pneumatic tyres (2.5 to 5-ton forklifts): R2,500 to R5,500 per tyre Heavy-duty pneumatic tyres (5 to 10-ton forklifts): R6,000 to R12,000 per tyre These prices include fitting and VAT. We'll give you exact pricing once we know your model and tyre type.

How We Work Out Cost Per Hour

Smart fleet managers don't just look at tyre price – they calculate cost per operating hour. A R8,000 tyre that lasts 3,000 hours costs you R2.67 per hour. A R5,000 tyre that only lasts 1,500 hours costs R3.33 per hour. Over a year, that difference adds up. We'll help you work this out. If you're burning through tyres quickly, it might be worth spending more on premium rubber that handles your application better.

Payment Terms

We accept EFT, cash, and card. For established business customers, we can arrange 30-day accounts once you're set up with our credit department. First-time customers usually pay upfront or on collection. Get your quote today – call 010 110 1819 or email sales@gpforklifts.co.za

How the Tyre Replacement Process Works

Step 1: Initial Enquiry

Call 010 110 1819 or WhatsApp 063 837 9914. Give us your Heli model, the current tyre size (it's printed on the tyre sidewall — look for something like 6.50-10 or 7.00-12), and a quick description of where and how the machine's used. Five minutes on the phone and we've got what we need. Timeline: Same-day response during business hours.

Step 2: Quote

We give you a clear figure covering tyres and fitting — not a ballpark. If you're not certain on the size or you'd like us to assess the machine first, that can be arranged. Timeline: Most quotes come back within a few hours of your enquiry.

Step 3: Confirm and Schedule

Happy with the price? We lock in the booking. Your machine comes to us in Edenvale, or we come to you — whichever works better for your operation. Timeline: We typically schedule within 1–3 business days.

Step 4: Tyre Fitting

Worn tyres come off, rims get inspected for damage, and the new Heli-compatible tyres go on to the correct torque spec. If we notice anything else worth flagging, we'll mention it — no pressure to deal with it on the spot. Timeline: 1–3 hours depending on how many tyres and site accessibility.

Step 5: Final Check and Handover

We walk you through what was done and confirm the fitment before the machine goes back to work. Timeline: Same-day completion in most cases.

Frequently Asked Questions

There’s no fixed schedule – it depends on usage. As a rule, replace tyres when they’ve worn down to the wear indicators (usually at 50% of original thickness) or when you see cracking, chunking, or uneven wear. Most operations get 2 to 4 years out of a set, but high-use forklifts might need new tyres every 12 to 18 months. We recommend checking tyre condition every month and measuring wear every quarter.

No, don’t do this. Both front tyres must be the same type and size, and both rear tyres must match each other. You can have different types front and rear (like cushion on the front and pneumatic on the back if that’s how it came), but never mix on the same axle. Different tyres have different characteristics, and mixing them affects stability and can damage your forklift.

We supply both. Genuine Toyota tyres are excellent quality, but aftermarket options from reputable manufacturers often perform just as well at lower cost. We’ll explain the options when you call. For most applications, quality aftermarket tyres are fine. For specialised applications or if you’re under warranty, you might prefer genuine Toyota parts.

Absolutely, and we maintain detailed service records that preserve warranty coverage. Some warranties require servicing by authorised dealers, though many simply require professional maintenance documentation. We’ll review your warranty terms during assessment to ensure our servicing meets all requirements. In some cases, we coordinate with dealers to maintain warranty compliance while providing more responsive local service.

For maintenance contract customers in our primary service areas (Gauteng, KZN, Western Cape, Eastern Cape), we commit to 4-hour emergency response during business hours, next-day response after hours. Non-contract customers receive service as technician availability allows, typically same-day or next-day. Remote areas naturally take longer – we’re honest about realistic response times rather than making promises we can’t keep.

For major repairs requiring workshop time, we arrange temporary replacements when available from our rental fleet. Availability isn’t guaranteed – we prioritise based on operational urgency and existing commitments. This service is included for premium maintenance contracts and available at daily rental rates for other customers. Many repairs happen on-site during scheduled maintenance, eliminating downtime entirely.

We never pressure customers into unnecessary work. When significant repairs are needed, we explain what’s failing, what happens if you defer the work, safety implications, and cost to repair versus replace. Sometimes the sensible decision is retiring old equipment rather than investing heavily in repairs. We provide honest advice based on your operational needs and budget constraints, not what generates the highest invoice.

Certainly – many customers start with call-out service to evaluate our work before committing to contracts. When you’re ready to switch, we conduct a thorough fleet assessment to establish baseline equipment condition, then propose appropriate contract terms. Existing equipment issues might need addressing before starting preventative maintenance programs, ensuring you’re not paying for regular servicing while dealing with accumulated neglect.
