Yale forklifts are built to take a beating — the ERP, GLP, and GDP series in particular get
used hard in SA warehouses and factories. But even the best machine loses its edge when
the tyres are wrong for the job. Here’s what we stock and what each option is actually good
for.
02
Solid tyres are the go-to choice for most Johannesburg warehouse operations. They can’t
puncture, they handle heavy loads without flexing, and they don’t need pressure checks. If
your Yale is moving pallets on concrete, solid tyres are almost certainly the right call.
03
You won’t spend on tube repairs,
pressure top-ups, or emergency call-outs because a tyre went flat mid-shift. For fleet
operators with multiple Yale units, that adds up.
Yale is one of the brands we work with most. Our technicians know the tyre specs, the
fitment requirements, and the common wear patterns across the ERP, GLP, GDP, and
veracitor series. When you call us about tyres for your specific Yale model, you’re not getting
a generic answer — you’re getting advice from people who’ve actually worked on these
machines.
We keep the most commonly needed Yale tyre sizes in stock at our Edenvale facility. That
means same-day or next-day supply in most cases for Joburg clients, rather than waiting a
week for an import order. Popular sizes like 28×9-15, 21×8-9, 18×7-8 and 7.00-12 are
typically available immediately.
Not every business can afford to take a forklift off-site for a tyre change. We offer on-site
fitting across Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni, so your Yale gets tyres without disrupting your
shift. Our team brings the right press equipment and handles everything at your facility.
GP Forklifts holds a BEE Level 1 rating with 135% procurement recognition. For companies
with B-BBEE compliance requirements, that’s a meaningful benefit when choosing a tyre
supplier.
We quote you a price, that’s the price. No hidden call-out fees added after the fact, no
surprise charges for a slightly different size. If something changes during the job, we tell you
upfront before proceeding.
Give us a call or send a WhatsApp with your Yale model number and the tyre size currently
on the machine (it’s stamped on the sidewall). If you’re not sure of the size or you’[re dealing
with unusual wear, send us a photo and we’ll identify what you need.
We check our Edenvale stock for your specific size and type. You’ll get a quote covering the
tyres and fitting — no vague estimates that change later. If we don’t have your size in stock,
we’ll tell you honestly and give you a realistic lead time.
Decide whether you’re bringing the machine to us or you want on-site fitting at your facility.
We’ll lock in a time that works around your operation — we understand forklifts don’t stop
working during business hours, so we’re flexible about scheduling.
Our technicians press on the tyres, check fitment, torque the fixings correctly, and do a quick
post-fit inspection before signing off. Most Yale tyre replacements take between one and two
hours depending on the number of tyres and whether it’s a press-on solid or an inflated
pneumatic.
Your Yale goes back into service. We’ll flag anything else we noticed during the job — things
like uneven wear that suggests an alignment issue, or hardware that needs attention — but
there’s no pressure to act on anything immediately. It’s just useful information.
Starting from around R800–R1,500 per tyre for standard sizes (ex. fitting). Larger industrial sizes run higher.
Generally from R900–R2,000 per tyre depending on size and whether foam-filled or air-filled.
Varies by size and load rating — we'll quote you directly after confirming the spec.
A call-out fee applies for Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni — confirmed at quote stage, not added as a surprise. The cheapest tyre isn't always the best value. Low-grade tyres wear quickly, can damage suspension components, and fail at the worst times. We sell tyres we'd put on our own machines — not the cheapest thing on the market. Request a quote: Call 010 110 1819 or email sales@gpforklifts.co.za with your Yale model and tyre size.
Yale forklifts use a range of tyre sizes depending on the model series and load capacity. We stock all of the following and can source other sizes on request:
• 28x9-15 — Common on GLP/GDP series counterbalance trucks • 21x8-9 — Widely used on smaller Yale electric units • 18x7-8 — Electric pallet trucks and smaller reach trucks • 7.00-12 — Mid-range Yale LPG and diesel counterbalance • 8.25-15 — Larger capacity Yale forklifts • 6.50-10, 6.00-9, 5.00-8 — Smaller Yale models and order pickers • 23x9-10, 16x6-8 — Various Yale warehouse equipment
Not sure which size you need? Check the sidewall of your current tyre — the size is moulded into the rubber. Or just call us with your model number and we'll look it up. We cover: Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Edenvale, Germiston, Boksburg, Kempton Park, Randburg, Sandton, Roodepoort, Midrand, and surrounding Gauteng areas.
Ryan WiblinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We recently had to do some major repairs to our forklift. Bob and the team at GP forklifts were absolutely unreal in their service and communication. The forklift was repaired at a very reasonable price and great care and effort was put into repairing everything and I'm quite convinced that the forklift is now running better than when we bought it new. Yes. Yale is one of the brands we work with most frequently. We stock the tyre sizes that
cover the most common Yale counterbalance, reach truck, and warehouse equipment
models. If you give us your model number or current tyre size, we’ll confirm stock
immediately.
For solid tyres, replace them when wear indicators (the flat zone on the sidewall) become
visible, or when you notice chunking, cracking, or flat-spotting. Pneumatic tyres should be
replaced when tread depth drops below 3mm or if you see cuts exposing the inner cords.
Uneven tyre wear often points to an alignment or load issue — worth investigating before
fitting new tyres.
A comprehensive service includes hydraulic system inspection and fluid top-up, complete brake system check and adjustment, chain and mast examination, tyre inspection and pressure check, battery connections and charging system test (electric units), engine tune and filter replacement (combustion units), safety feature testing, and load test to verify capacity. We also note any developing issues requiring future attention. The whole process takes 2-4 hours depending on equipment condition and any additional work identified.
Absolutely, and we maintain detailed service records that preserve warranty coverage. Some warranties require servicing by authorised dealers, though many simply require professional maintenance documentation. We’ll review your warranty terms during assessment to ensure our servicing meets all requirements. In some cases, we coordinate with dealers to maintain warranty compliance while providing more responsive local service.
For maintenance contract customers in our primary service areas (Gauteng, KZN, Western Cape, Eastern Cape), we commit to 4-hour emergency response during business hours, next-day response after hours. Non-contract customers receive service as technician availability allows, typically same-day or next-day. Remote areas naturally take longer – we’re honest about realistic response times rather than making promises we can’t keep.
For major repairs requiring workshop time, we arrange temporary replacements when available from our rental fleet. Availability isn’t guaranteed – we prioritise based on operational urgency and existing commitments. This service is included for premium maintenance contracts and available at daily rental rates for other customers. Many repairs happen on-site during scheduled maintenance, eliminating downtime entirely.
We never pressure customers into unnecessary work. When significant repairs are needed, we explain what’s failing, what happens if you defer the work, safety implications, and cost to repair versus replace. Sometimes the sensible decision is retiring old equipment rather than investing heavily in repairs. We provide honest advice based on your operational needs and budget constraints, not what generates the highest invoice.
Certainly – many customers start with call-out service to evaluate our work before committing to contracts. When you’re ready to switch, we conduct a thorough fleet assessment to establish baseline equipment condition, then propose appropriate contract terms. Existing equipment issues might need addressing before starting preventative maintenance programs, ensuring you’re not paying for regular servicing while dealing with accumulated neglect.
